What'cha think of the Oscars?
OK, so people don't know how to drive in snow in Wisconsin, so it took me two and a half hours to get home from Milwaukee last night and I missed the first hour of the Oscars. Based on what I saw, I thought Jon Stewart did a good job, though there appears to be some dissension on that.
What do you guys think? Was Stewart funny? What did you think of the winners? I was sort of surprised that "Crash" won best picture, though I figured it would win if "Brokeback Mountain" didn't. I liked "Crash," but I get irritated when movie stars pat themselves on the back for making movies "with a message." I liked what Stewart after a montage of message movies clips, which was something like: "All those problems were solved after those movies came out."
So, whaddaya think?

Eww, maybe I don't want to move back to the midwest anytime soon.
Anyway, I saw the opening, went out, and got back to see the preformance of pimp song till the end.
Stewart was great. A little to exhausting for me to make points right now, but I really enjoy his perspective.
Didn't watch a drop of it. But I guess I need to watch "Crash" now.
Hollywood's inability to laugh at itself is, er, laughable. I thought Stewart did a great job, especially on ad-libs. But of course, TV critics can't write that. They have to lump him in with Letterman and Rock as failures because it's a better story based on Hollywood's collective stone face throughout the show. Just glad Phil Hoffman won. And yes, I have to see "Crash" now and learn about this ugly thing called racism. Please, teach me Ludacris!
First, I think your line about people not knowing how to drive in snow in Wisconsin is kinda silly. HOWEVER, regarding the Oscars, I thought Jon Stewart was pretty good. I thought the production value from ABC's stand point left a LOT to be desired (a lot of backround noise and some bad outtros), but Jon was pretty good. Also, when did Ben Stiller become funny? His 3 minutes were hilarious.
Steve, I was with you when we both first saw Crash, and I do believe I declared then it would win best screenplay, and would be a best pic nominee. Not to toot my own horn, but rather to say that some of us thought the movie was great long before it was a critical darling and Oscar underdog.
I thought Stewart was fantastic. Not as caustic as Rock, but still incisive.
Three 6 Mafia's win left me speechless. Clooney is the coolest guy not named Jack Nicholson. (Speaking of whom, was anyone else horrified when they saw he was seated next to Keira Knightley? I mean, Jack and a young starlet sitting together for the evening. That had danger written all over it.)
Bill Simmons' comments on the ceremony are pretty good if you check them out at ESPN.
Cheddar also predicted the rise of Hitler in his ancient writings, only he called him "Hister." For 10 bucks, he'll read your palm.
I like Krista didn't watch it. For me spending time watching the Oscars would be about as productive as watching paint dry....BORING! - r

Hi, I'm Krista.
I thought Stewart said something about "you have to respect anyone who'll let us hit him in the head with a viola" ... and maybe that was what Hanks was playing to as he strolled out. I can't imagine him getting upset with Stewart after graciously filming that skit. Plus, Hanks is a comedian at heart. The guy seems game for anything.
I think Tom's right. I also heard that line about the viola. I don't think Hanks was actually upset.
